WEDNESDAY Creators Set to Revive THE ADDAMS FAMILY Through New Theatrical Animated Feature

Enthusiasts of Wednesday are preparing for additional supernatural entertainment from the creative minds responsible for Netflix's phenomenally successful series. Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the writing partnership behind the acclaimed show, have announced their involvement in developing a completely new Addams Family animated film—and this project won't be joining Netflix's catalog.

This revelation arrives shortly after Wednesday Season 2 Part 1's streaming debut, and while Netflix continues advancing Season 3 development, this animated venture is pursuing an entirely different distribution strategy. Rather than streaming release, the film is targeting theatrical exhibition through a collaboration with Amazon MGM.

Gough revealed during Deadline's Crew Call podcast: "We're developing this project alongside Amazon MGM and Kevin Miserocchi, who directs the Addams Foundation—he personally knew Charles Addams and serves as guardian of the Addams legacy—plus Gail Berman and John Glickman. We're revitalizing the animated film series."

This innovative interpretation will function independently, disconnected from both the Netflix series and previous cinematic releases. As Gough clarified, "It maintains no connection to the two preceding films, nor does it relate to our current series. This represents a completely fresh Addams feature. We cannot reveal extensive details, considering the project remains in preliminary development phases."

The production will relaunch the Addams Family animated franchise that previously reached theaters in 2019 and 2021, featuring voice performances from Charlize Theron and Oscar Isaac. Unlike those installments, this new film prioritizes innovative storytelling and theatrical distribution.

For audiences seeking additional Addams content, Gough and Millar are simultaneously developing a Wednesday spin-off centered on Fred Armisen's memorably eccentric Uncle Fester, which will remain within Netflix's programming portfolio.

More than three decades have passed since Barry Sonnenfeld's The Addams Family (1991) and Addams Family Values (1993) captivated audiences with their darkly comedic sensibilities, suggesting the mysterious, peculiar family is prepared for another major cinematic resurgence.
